-------------------------------------------------------------------
=========================================================================
NOTE: This package contains Microsoft's Windows 3.1 PostScript printer
driver (PSCRIPT.DRV) and associated files for the IBM 4019, IBM
4029, IBM 4039, IBM 4039 plus, IBM 4079, Lexmark 4039 plus, and
Lexmark Optra printers. This package does NOT contain Lexmark's
printer driver for PostScript Level 2 emulation in Windows 3.1.
If you want to take advantage of the Postscript Level 2 emulation
of the IBM 4039 plus, Lexmark 4039 plus, or the Lexmark Optra
printers, get the package MPLXPS2E from Lexmark.

II. Printing Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) Files in Windows 3.1
================================================================
An orientation change was made in the Windows 3.1 PostScript driver
that may change the printing of Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files.
If you have EPS files that do not print in the correct orientation,
you can solve the problem by making the following change to the
WIN.INI file in the \WINDOWS directory. This change should be
made with a text editor like Notepad, not a formatting editor like
Word for Windows. See the WININI.TXT file in your \WINDOWS directory
for additional information. You should use extreme care when editing
your WIN.INI file, as it contains not only printer information, but
other information that defines your Windows configuration.
1. Locate the bracketed "[]" printer entry in the WIN.INI
file. It will typcially look like:
[Lexmark Optra PS,LPT1]
feed1=1
feed2=1
feed4=1
feed5=20
EpsFile=
margins=510
2. Add the following line beneath the bracketed entry:
LandScapeOrient=270
3. Exit and re-enter Windows to activate the change.
III. Envelope Printing in Windows 3.1
=====================================
When you design or print an envelope, you must select landscape
orientation. This will ensure that the address prints in the
correct position on the envelope. To change the orientation to
Landscape, make the appropriate selections from the Printer Setup
or Page Setup dialog box in your application.
If you are using AmiPro, you may have to add the following line to
the AMIPRO2.INI file in the \WINDOWS subdirectory:
chgpapersize=yes
Please be sure and follow the instructions in Section II above on
how to edit .INI files.
IV. Paper Sources and Sizes
============================
The Windows 3.1 PostScript Printer Driver supports the following paper
sources:
Printer Setup dialog box Printer
------------------------ -------
Upper Tray Tray 1
Lower Tray Tray 2
Manual Feed Manual Paper
Envelope Feed Feeder
Envelope Manual Manual Envelope
Auto Select
Auto Select: If you choose Auto Select as paper source, the printer
will select the paper tray with the desired paper size
for you. If it cannot find the desired paper size, it
will prompt you for it.
Envelope Feed: If the desired paper size does not match the paper size
set for the envelope tray via the operator panel or a
previous job (printer setting), the printer will check the
other available paper sources for the correct size. If it
cannot find the desired paper size, it will prompt you for
it.
Upper Tray or
Lower Tray: If you choose Upper or Lower Tray as paper source, the
printer will NOT check the paper size. It will image (clip)
the page according to the desired size (the size selected
by you) on the paper found in the selected tray. If the
paper tray is empty, the printer will prompt for the size
set for the tray (which may or may not be the desired size).
Some applications' Printer or Page Setup settings do not override the
printer settings of the Windows Control Panel properly. If your printer
does not seem to pick the correct paper tray or size, make sure these
settings match: close the application; click on Control Panel and then on
Printers; select your printer and click on Setup; then select Paper Source
and Size; click on OK, close the Control Panel, and restart the application.
V. Installation Instructions
==============================
Take the following steps to install the new PostScript driver and
the associated WPD file for your printer.
1. Start Windows 3.1.
2. Insert the diskette with the new driver in the a: drive.
3. From the Main window, select the Control Panel.
4. At the Control Panel, click on Printers. The Printers dialog
box is displayed.
5. If you already have a PostScript printer installed, you should
check and note down the version number of the currently installed
driver since the Windows installation utility sometimes does not
recognize the relative newness of drivers correctly and therefore
may issue an erroneous message in the course of the installation
process (see step 9 below). To find out the version number, click
on Setup and then on About. Click on OK and then on Cancel to get
back to the Printers dialog box.
6. Select the Add button.
7. The List of Printers field is displayed. Highlight "Install
Unlisted or Updated Printer" and select the Install button.
8. The Install Driver window is displayed. Select OK.
9. The Add Unlisted or Updated Printer window is displayed.
Highlight your printer and then select OK.
If your printer was previously installed,
you will be asked which port connection you want to use.
Select the Current button.
If the message "The currently installed PSCRIPT.DRV is newer...
than the one you are attempting to install. Do you still want to
install the file?" is displayed, you need to check if this message
is indeed correct. Compare the version number you noted down in step 5
above (the version number of the currently installed driver) with
the one of the driver included in this package (see I. above for
the version number) and decide which driver you want.
If you want to keep the currently installed driver, click on No.
Only the WPD file for your printer will be copied to your
Windows\System subdirectory.
If you want to install the driver in this package, click on Yes.
The updated PSCRIPT.DRV file, the PSCRIPT.HLP file, and
the WPD file for your printer will be copied to your Windows\System
subdirectory.
10. Your printer will show up on the Installed Printers list.
Highlight it and select the Connect button.
11. At the Connect dialog box, highlight the appropriate printer
port (normally LPT1:) and select the OK button. You will
return to the Printers dialog box.
12. Select the Setup button. The setup box for your printer will
appear. In this box you may select printer default settings for
orientation, paper source, paper size, etc. Acknowledge your
choices by selecting OK. This will return you to the Printers
dialog box.
13. If you wish to make your printer the currently active printer,
select the Set As Default Printer button.
14. Select the Close button to return to the Control Panel.
Installation of your printer driver is complete.
