  4.     NOTE: This package contains Microsoft's Windows 3.1 PostScript printer
  5.           driver (PSCRIPT.DRV) and associated files for the IBM 4019, IBM
  6.           4029, IBM 4039, IBM 4039 plus, IBM 4079, Lexmark 4039 plus, and
  7.           Lexmark Optra printers.  This package does NOT contain Lexmark's
  8.           printer driver for PostScript Level 2 emulation in Windows 3.1.
  9.           If you want to take advantage of the Postscript Level 2 emulation
  10.           of the IBM 4039 plus, Lexmark 4039 plus, or the Lexmark Optra
  11.           printers, get the package MPLXPS2E from Lexmark.

  67.     II.  Printing Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) Files in Windows 3.1
  68.     ================================================================
  69.     An orientation change was made in the Windows 3.1 PostScript driver
  70.     that may change the printing of Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files.
  71.     If you have EPS files that do not print in the correct orientation,
  72.     you can solve the problem by making the following change to the
  73.     WIN.INI file in the \WINDOWS directory.  This change should be
  74.     made with a text editor like Notepad, not a formatting editor like
  75.     Word for Windows.  See the WININI.TXT file in your \WINDOWS directory
  76.     for additional information.  You should use extreme care when editing
  77.     your WIN.INI file, as it contains not only printer information, but
  78.     other information that defines your Windows configuration.

  80.        1.  Locate the bracketed "[]" printer entry in the WIN.INI
  81.            file.  It will typcially look like:
  82.             [Lexmark Optra PS,LPT1]
  83.             feed1=1

  90.        2.  Add the following line beneath the bracketed entry:

  93.        3.  Exit and re-enter Windows to activate the change.

  97.     III. Envelope Printing in Windows 3.1
  98.     =====================================
  99.     When you design or print an envelope, you must select landscape
  100.     orientation.  This will ensure that the address prints in the
  101.     correct position on the envelope.  To change the orientation to
  102.     Landscape, make the appropriate selections from the Printer Setup
  103.     or Page Setup dialog box in your application.
  104.  
  105.     If you are using AmiPro, you may have to add the following line to
  106.     the AMIPRO2.INI file in the \WINDOWS subdirectory:
  107.  
  108.             chgpapersize=yes
  109.  
  110.     Please be sure and follow the instructions in Section II above on
  111.     how to edit .INI files.

  115.     IV.  Paper Sources and Sizes
  116.     ============================
  117.     The Windows 3.1 PostScript Printer Driver supports the following paper
  118.     sources:
  119.             Printer Setup dialog box      Printer

  122.             Lower Tray                    Tray 2
  123.             Manual Feed                   Manual Paper
  124.             Envelope Feed                 Feeder

  128.     Auto Select:   If you choose Auto Select as paper source, the printer
  129.                    will select the paper tray with the desired paper size
  130.                    for you. If it cannot find the desired paper size, it
  131.                    will prompt you for it.
  132.     Envelope Feed: If the desired paper size does not match the paper size
  133.                    set for the envelope tray via the operator panel or a
  134.                    previous job (printer setting), the printer will check the
  135.                    other available paper sources for the correct size.  If it
  136.                    cannot find the desired paper size, it will prompt you for
  137.                    it.
  138.     Upper Tray or
  139.     Lower Tray:    If you choose Upper or Lower Tray as paper source, the
  140.                    printer will NOT check the paper size.  It will image (clip)
  141.                    the page according to the desired size (the size selected
  142.                    by you) on the paper found in the selected tray.  If the
  143.                    paper tray is empty, the printer will prompt for the size
  144.                    set for the tray (which may or may not be the desired size).
  145.  
  146.     Some applications' Printer or Page Setup settings do not override the
  147.     printer settings of the Windows Control Panel properly. If your printer
  148.     does not seem to pick the correct paper tray or size, make sure these
  149.     settings match: close the application; click on Control Panel and then on
  150.     Printers; select your printer and click on Setup; then select Paper Source
  151.     and Size; click on OK, close the Control Panel, and restart the application.

  154.     V.   Installation Instructions
  155.     ==============================
  156.  
  157.     Take the following steps to install the new PostScript driver and
  158.     the associated WPD file for your printer.
  159.  
  160.      1.  Start Windows 3.1.
  161.  
  162.      2.  Insert the diskette with the new driver in the a: drive.
  163.  
  164.      3.  From the Main window, select the Control Panel.
  165.  
  166.      4.  At the Control Panel, click on Printers.  The Printers dialog
  167.          box is displayed.
  168.  
  169.      5.  If you already have a PostScript printer installed, you should
  170.          check and note down the version number of the currently installed
  171.          driver since the Windows installation utility sometimes does not
  172.          recognize the relative newness of drivers correctly and therefore
  173.          may issue an erroneous message in the course of the installation
  174.          process (see step 9 below). To find out the version number, click
  175.          on Setup and then on About. Click on OK and then on Cancel to get
  176.          back to the Printers dialog box.
  177.  
  178.      6.  Select the Add button.
  179.  
  180.      7.  The List of Printers field is displayed.  Highlight "Install
  181.          Unlisted or Updated Printer" and select the Install button.
  182.  
  183.      8.  The Install Driver window is displayed.  Select OK.
  184.  
  185.      9.  The Add Unlisted or Updated Printer window is displayed.
  186.          Highlight your printer and then select OK.
  187.          If your printer was previously installed,
  188.          you will be asked which port connection you want to use.
  189.          Select the Current button.
  190.  
  191.          If the message "The currently installed PSCRIPT.DRV is newer...
  192.          than the one you are attempting to install. Do you still want to
  193.          install the file?" is displayed, you need to check if this message
  194.          is indeed correct. Compare the version number you noted down in step 5
  195.          above (the version number of the currently installed driver) with
  196.          the one of the driver included in this package (see I. above for
  197.          the version number) and decide which driver you want.

  199.          If you want to keep the currently installed driver, click on No.
  200.          Only the WPD file for your printer will be copied to your 
  201.          Windows\System subdirectory.
  202.  
  203.          If you want to install the driver in this package, click on Yes.
  204.          The updated PSCRIPT.DRV file, the PSCRIPT.HLP file, and
  205.          the WPD file for your printer will be copied to your Windows\System
  206.          subdirectory.

  211.     10.  Your printer will show up on the Installed Printers list.
  212.          Highlight it and select the Connect button.
  213.  
  214.     11.  At the Connect dialog box, highlight the appropriate printer
  215.          port (normally LPT1:) and select the OK button.  You will
  216.          return to the Printers dialog box.
  217.  
  218.     12.  Select the Setup button.  The setup box for your printer will
  219.          appear.  In this box you may select printer default settings for
  220.          orientation, paper source, paper size, etc.  Acknowledge your
  221.          choices by selecting OK.  This will return you to the Printers
  222.          dialog box.

  224.     13.  If you wish to make your printer the currently active printer, 
  225.          select the Set As Default Printer button.
  226.  
  227.     14.  Select the Close button to return to the Control Panel.
  228.          Installation of your printer driver is complete.
